To amazing partnerships!

Thanks to our local DNRC Fire Crew, our new trail is built!

This summer saw the completion of the approximately 2.5 mile Northwest Passage Trail located in the High Trails System's North-West corner, all thanks to our great Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation (DNRC) team!

Kyle Rawson, DNRC Dillon Engine Boss, led a fire crew building the Northwest Passage Trail, working almost weekly from June to August. The firefighters stationed in Dillon routinely use the High Trails for pre-season endurance training. According to Don Copple, the local Fire Management Officer, building trail also allows them to use the tools of the trade such as pulaskis and work as a team.

The USFS recreation specialists helped specify the trail alignment after BTC acquired the land in 2018. Thanks to that addition, loops from the trailhead exceeding 5 miles are now possible. Traffic on the trail suggests that it is already very popular with both hikers and bicyclists!

DNRC Fire Fighters have previously contributed to the Cliff and Tim's Ridge trails' construction. Their work is always much appreciated.
